This replaces my 3 year old Motorola RAZR. The RAZR had very spotty sound, which was getting worse. The X6 has a great camera, but I lost the first pix I took. Eventually I got it to work. It is SLOW, but high quality. The red-eye reduction is bizarre: you have to “outline” the eye AFTER the photo & push the red-eye reduction button…I couldn’t manage it.
When I turned it on it asked if I wanted to work “offline.” Sounded like a good idea for early learning. HOWEVER, I could not get it back “online.” The oddly-written manual did not address this at all. The next day, I turned it on & it asked me if I wanted to continue offline…boy did I say NO fast!
The QWERTY keyboard is weird. It’s like the keyboard on a comp or typewriter, but it just doesn’t work the same…unless you have mouse-sized fingers, with a very delicate & precise touch. After 3 days, I only got to letter “E.” I had my lists in the RAZR memory card, but only the SIM stuff is transferable (only name & phone #, but no addresses, etc.), since they are different brands. Apparently Nokia can transfer to Nokia (via their software), but not to other brands.
My biggest beef is the “new” OVI software: OVI transfers photos, music, etc. between phone & comp. Neither the enclosed CD nor Nokia-site download worked. Tech support told me to use the PC Suite software instead of the OVI.
The supplied USB cable is about 6″ long…not convenient for my desktop which is on the floor, with USB in the back! Ya think they could give a bit more cable.
I’d give it 2-3 stars because the sound quality is super. So it’s a good phone & takes nice photos…period. Voice quality is true. With 16 GB built-in, and 5 MG pixels, it is a handy little camera with auto-flash if wanted. The zoom is a bit odd, again requiring mini-fingers to adjust the sliding bar on the screen. For me, this cannot be a “smart” phone with music, internet, etc.
I don’t get data reception where I live. And, without OVI, there is no other way to connect for video & music (PC Suite asks for an OVI upgrade when you go to it for music). Even with OVI, the transfers would involve data, meaning paying for 3rd party service.
Follow-up after a week: PC Suite connects phone to comp. You can move photos off the phone. HOWEVER, music & apps from Nokia have to come through OVI, via internet links. Since I can’t use the OVI software, I can’t get music. OVI is a totally different system from the direct connection between phone & comp by PC Suite. OVI involves “data” transfer, and thus increased costs from phone company. By changing their software Nokia seems to be going backwards…especially since I bought the phone unlocked, with no discount from my phone provider!
I bought a new powered USB hub with a long cord, & the short USB cord now works with the phone on my desktop. Nokia support did not suggest this possible solution.
Nokia support stinks.

I got this phone to replace my Nexus one because of AT&T, I have owned Nokia phones for over four years and have had many N series phones. The X6 is a improvement over the other touch screen phones they make, my N97 mini was just marginal and the 5800 was a disaster with others falling in between that, I would have loved to keep my N1 but refuse to pay $30.00 a month for data on a phone that AT&T does not sell, that is why I went back to Nokia and the X6. The X6 touch screen has been improved with kinetic scrolling but it still suffers from poor touch response!I find this somewhat annoying but livable, the screen is bright and clear but not as good looking as a AMOLED screen but then again the X6 does not suffer from burn in like the AMOLED screens do.The flimsey back cover is a disapointment it feels like it will break very easy if not careful, also the three hard point buttons on the front are a worthless design that I am sure will give you trouble in the future, again poorly built. Battery life is marginal at best!!!
Call quality is the same as all Nokia phones, it is clear and has great sound, the twin speakers on the phone give it a really good sound when playing music. The bluetooth works great and is very clear and will support voice dialing from the headset if the headset supports it.All in all Nokia has improved the touch screen phone some what, but still have a long way to go, maybe the new symbian 3 on the N8 will bring them up to where they should have been long ago. I think that the limit of only 16GB internal memory is a mistake, I thought that Nokia would have learned that lesson when they made the N95 8GB but I guess not, they should have at least put a HCSD slot in the phone also but I guess not. Also a little better processor would have been better, the lack of power is a little disappointing but again livable!!! All in all it is a typical Nokia with all the short comings that are typical Nokia, something I have come to expect over the years!!!
Would I recommend this phone to others?? Yes but with the stipulation that they do not have visions of iphone or Android N1 to compare to because it will fall well short of the mark. For a Nokia touch screen phone it is as good as they get, if not for the kinetic scrolling it would have probably only gotten two or three stars at best!!! I guess it will hold me over until something better comes along!!!!
