Darim Vision has released its latest wearable/portable security camera – the PVE400 portable video encoder/streamer that is able to hold its own in virtually any environment you pit yourself into (assuming you’re the everyday Joe type who doesn’t go indulge in death-defying environments each week, of course). The PVE400 is meant to provide the wearer with black-box-type archiving to its wireless/IP transmission of video, audio, and GPS tracking capabilities. This is one of the latest generation PVE that brings together simultaneous Wi-Fi streaming and local recording onto a flash memory card without restricting users to either-or choices.

There are many situations where real-time broadcasting for “point-of-view” situational awareness is critical, and these include surveillance to inspection under extreme conditions. Unfortunately at this point in time, current networks aren’t 100% reliable and failsafe, so merging both local recording with simultaneous wireless transmission helps offer an extra layer of redundancy alongside the peace of mind that the entire event can be documented. According to Aaron Taylor, Sales & Marketing Manager of Darim, “Local recording capability provides that important second opportunity to view the action. Like a black box, this capability provides a permanent archive of what happened. Power can go down, networks can fail, but local recording will continue.”

This recording redundancy turns the PVE400 into a “must-have” tool for those who want real-time monitoring as well as others who find themselves in situations where archiving is mandatory. The PVE400 was constructed to be rugged enough to withstand harsh conditions, and is currently being used worldwide by the military, SWAT teams, and special-event security. It has also seen action in remote surveillance applications such as airport, oil rig, and mining inspection operations, so for the average user like you and I, we can be sure that it is able to withstand the everyday rigors we subject it to.

I love reporting on the latest in weaponry. I’m sure that a lot of people will call me a little twisted, but I just can’t think of a cooler gadget than the latest weapon.

This particular stun gun, the X12 Taser LLS, had me when it was described as a “wireless taser”. Perhaps I also have an affinity for all things wireless. I mean, we have wireless computers and phones, why not wireless tasers? After all, those wires that zip out of most tasers can tangle very easily.

The LLS stands for Less Lethal Shotgun, and it is able to fire a charged round from up to 88 feet away. According to a Press Release, “it can pentrate clothing and transmit electrical impulses, causing the body to be temporarily paralyzed, unlike conventional stun guns which cause immobility by causing pain”.

In other words, someone might have you in their sight before you say “don’t tase me, bro”. I’m sure that you really don’t want to get hit by one of these guys, really.

The X12 Taser LLS is due to come out in June, but I’m guessing that it won’t be available to the general public. Hopefully, it won’t be too expensive, because SWAT teams in today’s economy might opt for cheaper and more lethal rifles.

According to Gary Sharpiro, president and CEO of CEA, Yoostar is “what CES is all about”. I can only assume that the Yoostar was on display at CES last January, but I must have missed it.

What a shame. The Yoostar looks like a really sweet product that allows an ordinary person to insert themselves into a movie. It comes with a portable green screen, a high resolution webcam, and a microphone to make this special effect.

The Yoostar comes with special software that can remove an actor or actress from a scene and insert the player/user saying whatever he or she wants. The example from the official website shows a scene from Witness, with some guy doing a terrible Harrison Ford impersonation.

The system also includes clips from films like The Godfather, Forrest Gump, The Terminator, Employee of the Month, Psycho, Rocky Balboa, and several others. Once the user has created his or her movie parody, it can be uploaded to his or her Facebook site with just a click of a mouse.

The Yoostar is expected to come out in August for $169.95, and it could easily be the next cool thing if it could do every movie. I can think of several flicks that I would love to put myself in.

If you enjoy being under water, then I suppose you should have a way to capture those memories. Especially if you’re out in the ocean and have managed to find a spot with lots of brightly colored fish. Thankfully, the infamous Thanko has you covered. They’ve created a camera to go underwater that won’t have to be held. This tube camera will take your underwater pictures and give the view from the side of your head. Which might be difficult if you want a very precise shot, but would be great for general pretty underwater pictures.

The Thanko camera also can record video and has 2GB of internal memory to store it on. The video records in 320×240 resolution at 25fps. The camera will withstand the water up to 20m down. To keep it powered, you’ll need to charge it for 2 hours in order to get 2-3 hours of use. You can attach this to your goggles or Thanko provides a headband. Although the headband works, somehow it looks even more dorky than wearing the camera on a set of goggles. To purchase the camera as of now, you’ll have to be in Japan and pay up $130. Although it’s possible that it’ll make its way onto the Thanko store branch that allows for the rest of the world to pick it up.
