Sony is off the blocks with new e-book readers that come in the form of the Reader Pocket Edition and the Reader Touch Edition which we’ll look at in greater detail below. This isn’t the first e-book reader to be released from Sony, and will most probably prove to be quite the competitor towards the Amazon Kindle and its sequel. Both of these e-book readers from Sony will be available at the end of this month onwards from various sources including SonyStyle.com, SonyStyle stores and select retail partners. Apart from that, you can also pick up new releases and New York Times bestseller titles in the eBook Store from Sony for $9.99 apiece, making it cheaper compared to the actual paperback, saving you costs on purchasing a bookshelf as well.

First off is the Reader Pocket Edition that comes with a 5? electronic paper display which is crammed into a stylish chassis. Nice to know that Sony has released it in a bunch of different colors, including navy blue, rose and silver. The Reader Pocket Edition is a snap to navigate through using but a single hand, where the relatively small size also means it can slip into a purse or jacket pocket without causing any noticeable bulge. Also known as the PRS-300, this model can hold up to around 350 standard e-books with its internal memory, and the battery is able to last up to two weeks of non-stop reading before it requires a trip to the nearest power outlet. The Sony PRS-300 Reader Pocket Edition will retail for $199, making it the most affordable dedicated reading device on the market at the moment.

As for the Reader Touch Edition, you can tell by its name that the PRS-600 (model number) will come with a responsive, menu-driven 6? touchscreen display which makes it possible to take advantage of quick, intuitive navigation, page turning, highlighting and note taking with but a swipe of the finger or using the included stylus if you hate leaving fingerprints over all your devices. The stylus will also come in handy when one needs to take down handwritten notes on the go, while those who are more comfortable with a virtual keyboard can opt for that as well. It will come with a pre-loaded Oxford American English Dictionary to expand your word power, boasting memory card slots for Memory Stick PRO Duo and SD formats. $299 will net you the Sony PRS-600 in either red, black or silver colors.

Although normally gadget DIY projects are incredibly complicated and most people couldn’t dream of pulling it off, this is one that just about anyone could pull off. That is provided you have the proper tools, probably a Dremel would be the best tool for this one. If you already have an old NES controller and the Dremel this would be an incredibly affordable dock. Which is nice since most Apple affiliated accessories tend to be a little bit expensive.

Just drill a hole and create a spot to stick the iPhone cable within the NES controller and you’d be done. This one was created for an iPhone 3GS, but there’s no reason you couldn’t create it for a regular iPod instead. This particular mod was done by an iPhone.fr forum member, WCR. As lacking as I am in the crafty area, even I don’t think this one would be a difficult one to try out. It’d be especially great for someone that wants to start doing mods and just wants a simple project to start out with.

For those that are considering giving their young ones a laptop, Disney has gone in with ASUS to create two different Disney themed laptops. There is basically a male and female version, the Princess Pink you see here and Magic Blue for the boys. These kid friendly laptops allow for the kids to pick and choose a theme such as Hannah Montana or WALL-E. Don’t worry, there are features that make this laptop a little more likely to survive being abused by the kids ranging in ages from 6-12. It has a spill-proof keyboard and ShockShield protection that will save data in a fall.

These ASUS MK90 and MK90H have a total of 40 parental control options, so you can attempt to protect your kids from their never ending curiosity. These also come with a software bundle that will include Disney brand media-management software (Disney Mix), photo software (Disney Pix) and then other things such as games and widgets. As far as the machine itself goes, it runs on an Intel Atom N270 processor, with 1GB of DDR2 Ram. It also includes a VGA port, 3 USB ports and an 8.9-inch LED backlit screen with a 1,024 by 600 resolution. As well as a multi-card reader, a 0.3 MP webcam and a battery that is said to run for up to 5 hours. You can pick them up in late July for $349.99.

It is nice to know that ever since Dell bought over extreme gaming brand Alienware, they haven’t really affected the company’s performance in any way. Dell still churns out reliable (for most people, anyways – there are always horror stories to tell of any brand in this world) notebooks and desktops for millions of people around the world each day, and Alienware sticks to what it does best – working on drool-worthy gaming machines that cost a bomb, and yet people won’t mind forking out good money for it due to the overall aesthetics as well as performance that come in a single package. Having said that, Alienware has rolled out yet another masterpiece today – the Alienware M17x gaming notebook that is set to blow your mind away.

While the M17x isn’t exactly the best kept secret in the world, it is nice to get an official announcement, where Dell has touted it to be the “most powerful laptop in the universe.” That’s surely stating their faith that advanced alien civilizations out there don’t exist – but that’s a different can of worms for another day. What can you expect from a thoroughbred like the Alienware M17x? For starters, check out what a fully pimped out model can offer.

Dual 1GB nVidia GeForce GTX 280M GPUs

An Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad-Core CPU

8GB of 1333MHz DDR3 RAM

A 1TB 7200-rpm (Raid 1 or Raid 0) or a 512MB of solid-state storage capacity

A slot-loading dual-layer Blu-ray Disc Drive

A nine-cell battery

An nVidia GeForce 9400M G GPU with HybridPower technology

802.11n (2×2) Wi-Fi connectivity

A 1920-by-1200-resolution edge-to-edge LCD Display

2GB of total video memory just blows our minds away. We’re guessing that this means the era of notebooks being viable gaming platforms is coming, although bringing down the price by a bunch would go a long way in helping that dream get realized. One thing’s for sure – we’d strongly recommend you sit right next to a power outlet if you plan to use this for more than a couple hours of hardcore gaming.

It doesn’t cost any extra to have your notebook come in red. The color is distributed primarily on the lid, which is red, but the area near the hinge is also adorned in red leather to make for an interesting accent. You can get this slightly snazzier Dell Studio XPS notebook now.

When the Apple MacBook Air was first released and unveiled to the world, everyone was astounded as to how thin and slim the entire piece of computing was. Even until today, you won’t find any other notebook coming close to the Apple MacBook Air, never mind the fact that it isn’t exactly powerful to be on par with the rest of the other MacBook Pros in Apple’s stable. Well, other notebook manufacturers did not waste the opportunity of seeing how the Air wowed first time viewers when it was unveiled, and MSI is among one of them to leverage on the lean theme with a couple of X-Slim notebooks. MSI will make available a couple of models to the masses in due time – the 14? X-Slim X400 and the 15? X-Slim X600, where both of them will be released sometime in Q2 this year.

Both the X-Slim X600 and X400 are record breakers in their respective categories, having taken top spot in lightness and thinness categories. This comes across as no surprise, thanks to the use of a super slim Li-poly battery in the 14? X-Slim X400, making the entire notebook weigh no more than 1.5kg. As for the 15? X-Slim X600, it is slightly heavier (obviously) with a similar battery, tipping the scales at a mere 2.1kg. Both of them are also less than an inch thick (or should we say, thin?), coming with 16:9 theater-class LED displays, full I/O ports, and Blu-Ray support. The beefier X600 is more entertainment oriented as it is also accompanied by a discrete graphic card to maximize visual performance.

There is no word on pricing for either machine,. but we do know that the X-Slim X400 will come with an optional 8 cell Long-endurance battery, while those who settle for the X600 can always opt for the slightly longer lasting 9 cell long-endurance battery. Both models have kept up with the times by adopting external ODD drivers that will further keep the X-Slim series notebooks slim and trendy.
